Like its arcade counterpart, Super C replaces the 3D stages from the original game with overhead stages instead, but unlike the arcade version, the Mega Shell power-up that can be used at anytime to kill all on-screen enemies is gone. ![]() The upgradable weapon feature from the arcade version is gone, but the Rapid Fire and Barrier power-ups that were gone in the arcade version are back, along with the Special. Super C is not an exact adaptation of the arcade game, being more of an expanded version of the first NES game instead. Based on the 1988 arcade game Super Contra, it is commonly believed that the NES version was given the abbreviated name of "Super C" to avoid any allusion to the 1985 Iran-Contra scandal (the Japanese version for the Family Computer retained the full title). Super C is a 1990 action shoot-'em-up for the Nintendo Entertainment System that serves as the sequel to Contra. ![]()
